Shoot Boxing in Reading
Boxing and wrestling, taught together — the simplest, most solid route into MMA.

What shoot boxing training involves
Most people who want to learn MMA have never boxed, wrestled or done jiu-jitsu. Trying to learn all of it at once is information overload. Shoot Boxing is how we solve that.
The class focuses on two connected skill sets: boxing and wrestling. You learn to strike, to change levels, to take someone down and to stop them taking you down — and how those things feed each other. Once that base is in place, we layer on kicks, jiu-jitsu, submissions and the wider MMA game.
Think of it as the foundation course for our MMA programme. It's serious training, but it's structured so a beginner can follow it.
What you'll learn
- Stance and movement for striking and wrestling
- Punching technique and combinations (jab, cross, hook, uppercut etc.)
- Level changes and takedown entries
- Sprawling and takedown defence
- Hand fighting and clinch work
- Using strikes to set up takedowns, and takedowns to set up strikes

Beginner guidance
No experience needed. The class starts from stance and movement, and live work is introduced gradually at a level you can manage. Tell the coach it's your first session.
Once you're comfortable, add BJJ or beginner kickboxing — then the Friday MMA class. That's the route most of our MMA members take.
Your first session is free — for adults and children alike. Message us and we'll book you in.

Who teaches this
Hamza Mirza
Head Coach
Hamza is Head Coach and sets the coaching direction for the whole of One Mission — how the curriculum is structured, how individual arts are taught and how they're put back together for MMA. He coaches across grappling, BJJ, wrestling, striking and MMA development, and has trained martial arts for around ten years, coaching for much of that time. Whether a student wants to learn a martial art, get fitter, sharpen a skill set or compete, his job is to make sure there's a clear route for them.
Questions
Shoot Boxing questions
It's the class we use as a bridge into MMA. Shoot Boxing focuses on two connected skill sets — boxing and wrestling — so you learn how punches set up takedowns and how to defend both, without being hit with every MMA element at once. Once that base is solid, kicks, jiu-jitsu, submissions and wider MMA combinations are much easier to layer on. It runs on Wednesday at 18:00.
