Why are my lights flickering?
From cheap LEDs to loose neutrals — the range of causes, ranked by seriousness.
Flickering LEDs are usually a compatibility issue between the lamp and dimmer. Flickering across the whole property is more serious and can indicate a loose neutral connection at the consumer unit or incoming supply.
When to be concerned
If flickering coincides with hearing a crackling sound, a burning smell, or lights dimming when a big appliance kicks in, isolate the circuit and call an electrician the same day.
